Charlotte,NC – Following its first lost of the season to the #1 ranked Atlanta Monarchs last week, the Charlotte Invasion (4-1) were hungry to get back on the floor and take its frustration out on the next opponent. Unfortunately for the Lady Hornets of Huntersville (0-3), they happened to be the next opponent. The Invasion imposed their will from start to finish, getting back to their winning ways with a convincing 110-56 victory inside the Belk Gymnasium on the campus of Charlotte Latin.
“We knew last week would be tough because most of the Monarch players played in the WNBA,” said Head Coach Clyde Pritchett who is in his fourth season with the franchise. “We didn’t let the lost get to us, we just brushed it off and came back and played our game.”
The Invasion’s game, however, was more than what the Lady Hornets bargained for. Charlotte opened up with a 24-8 run, using it’s stellar full court trap defense to force Huntersville into a plethora of turnovers which translated to numerous uncontested lay-ups for the Invasion.
Huntersville Head Coach Brett Badgett called three timeouts within the first six minutes of the game in hopes to settle down his team. The Lady Hornets, which dressed seven players for the game, frequently clogged the paint on both ends of the floor to take advantage of its massive front-court featuring 6’4 center Tiffani Stephens. The strategy was not enough to counteract the blazing fast speed of the Invasion who were able to spread the ball around the perimeter and knock down jump shots with ease. Guard Nyshia Hammonds led the way with a game leading 25 points for the Invasion.
The Invasion will be on the road for three consecutive weeks before returning home on July 7, 2018 to take on the Virginia Lady Warriors.
